Asian New Year Festival 2010: The Eye of The Tiger
Welcome to the official anyf page! We're excited that you want to participate this year. Imagine yourself with the opportunity to show off your hidden talent for singing, tininkling, hip hop dancing, or even martial arts in front of 600 people! Each February, the Asian American Student's Association hosts ANYF (Asian New Year Festival), a dinner and show combo that draws a crowd of over 600 people from the Vanderbilt and Nashville community. We provide a feast for your mouth, eyes and ears! Dinner is catered by some of Nashville's biggest and best Asian eateries. The show follows directly after with student talents ranging from singing solos, instrumental ensembles, and dancing acts! The night is one of the keystone events of AASA and an anchor for the month of February at Vandy.
This year, we plan to shake things up a little. It is the founding goal of AASA to educate the community about the Asian American culture as well as to promote cultural diversity and collaboration. We hope to take this to a new level by incorporating the qualities of service and citizenship into our program. With this new goal in mind, we are collaborating with the Wang Institute for Sight Restoration, a nationally renowned charity organization based in Nashville by fundraising for them. Dr. Wang, who has appeared on Extreme Makeover in addition to performing LASIK on celebrities, has graciously and enthusiastically supported our help. He will be speaking to the AASA body during the course of this year as well as performing at ANYF!
