TAU CHAPTER
The Tau Chapter of Alpha Epsilon Pi was founded in 1929, and it continues to be active on the Vanderbilt campus. Our emphasis on community service exemplifies Tau chapter’s dedication to the founding principles of Alpha Epsilon Pi—courage, faith and truth. Our national philanthropy is related to a food bank called Mazon. Locally, Tau Chapter works hard to raise money for The Boys and Girls Club of Nashville.
Our social schedule keeps us busy all year long. Annual parties such as the Halloween Bash, Time Warp Weekend, Holiday Party, and Formal give us the chance to relax and have a great time. In addition, we leave room in the schedule for random parties and road trips.
Our chapter has active alumni support, including several members on the national executive board. We keep in contact with our alumni and also with the national organization. Networking is important to all brothers as we recognize the potential benefits of brotherhood, post-graduation. Alpha Epsilon Pi alumni all over the country provide a solid foundation in the uncertain "job search" times around and after graduation. Events like our annual Zeta Softball Tournament at Georgia Tech bring together brothers of all ages from all over the country.
Alpha Epsilon Pi looks for people who have something to offer the fraternity. We encourage our brothers and our new initiates to be active on campus as well, and we have brothers involved in a wide array of activities including the IFC executive board, Hillel, VAHS, ISA, VEMS, GAMMA alcohol management group, cross country, sailing team, RA, The Holocaust Lecture Series Board, and most campus honor societies.
Rushing Alpha Epsilon Pi only involves meeting the brothers. We’re a tight group, but if you like to feel like you can just be yourself and feel right at home, we might be the place for you. We’d love to get a chance to know you, so stop by the house sometime this fall!
Parent's Guide to Fraternities
LEADERSHIP
One of the greatest opportunities in college is to develop leadership skills and to apply these skills in practical situations. Fraternity life will teach, encourage, and assist your son in leadership skill development. Each chapter is self-governed and offers its members the opportunity to learn and improve leadership skills by inspiring chapter participation and campus involvement.
SERVICE
One of the most gratifying aspects of fraternity life is the sense of satisfaction and pride that comes with involvement in community service. Greeks recognize the need and concern throughout the year to donate time and raise money for their special philanthropies and community service projects. In fact, the ideals of most fraternities are exemplified through their donations of time and financial contributions. Whether raising funds or volunteering time, service is an important part of the fraternity experience.
INTRAMURALS
The intramural program at Vanderbilt University is perhaps one of the most visible and enjoyable aspects of fraternity life at Vandy. Even though the intramural program is open to all students, Greek participation and competition is always strong on campus. Intramural events also teach the importance of teamwork. Because of the high level of competition, members soon learn that dedication to teamwork brings success, not just on the playing field, but in the classroom and in social activities as well.
SCHOLARSHIP
Academic achievement is the foundation for an individual's future success, and the Greek community at Vanderbilt University is committed to creating an environment conducive to learning and the attainment of academic goals. In fact, the transition from high school to college is smoother for Greeks. In the fraternity, your son can use the network of members who already have experience with classes and courses. Academic support services include tutoring programs, scholarships, in-house test files, academic enhancement seminars and workshops, time management seminars and computer resources.
Greek Men = Success!
SOCIAL AND FRIENDSHIP
The social life in a fraternity helps the college man develop a sense of poise, personality and other social graces, all of which will be useful to him later in life. The ability to function comfortably in a social environment will prove almost as important to your son as his ability to handle the work environment. Being a member of a group of people will allow him to share common interests and develop friendships within the Greek community. Along with social awareness, Greek social events also serve as a release from the sometimes stressful college atmosphere.
COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH JOINING A FRATERNITY
Financial requirements are an important consideration for men participating in the Greek community. Each fraternity is self-supporting from dues paid by its members. Dues and fees vary for each chapter and from year to year depending on an individual chapter's social expenses, and national dues. This cost includes social dues, chapter insurance, national dues, chapter dues, and other various items. Fees are generally higher during new membership to cover the initial pledge dues and initiation fees.
AEPi is...
...Friendship. But even more it is a brotherhood which soars high above the casual friendships. It is often too intangible to explain.
...Diversity of membership which provides for a broader understanding and acceptance of personality types and backgrounds.
...Teamwork. Being part of a group experience, too often lost on today's campuses.
...Personal development. One can only develop fully when one has an opportunity to interact with others...the education of self in relation to others.
...Broadening of dimensions in college and personal life, service to others, intellectual stimulation and encouragement, and cultural enrichment.
...Ideals. Fraternities embrace very basic ideals built on psychological and sociological concepts. It comprises ritual...a pin...a belief in some of the finer things this world can offer.
....Lifetime friendships and opportunities. Throughout the U.S. and Canada alumni groups offer loyal and strong friendships.
....Pursuit of excellence. Excellence in responsible behavior and citizenship to combat the moral jungle. Membership is not for any and all - but for those who are willing to set common goals and aspirations.
...Leadership. Students become actively involved in programs with particular interest in their needs. Young people are going to be leaders; almost nowhere is leadership training offered today as it is in fraternities.
...Responsibility to self, brothers, fraternity, university, and community. With these responsibilities one develops pride in membership and an opportunity to live beyond one's self.
...Scholastic help. Fraternities seek to help individuals develop scholastically to their utmost - providing encouragement, study facilities, and upperclassmen who help as tutors if desired.
...Individuality. Fraternities encourage individuality - they do not breed conformity. Common purposes must be worked out, but creativity is always encouraged!
