The goals of this session are to provide an overview of the general use of PowerPoint to design and produce readable and effective PowerPoint presentations and to emphasize the oral aspects of presentation skills. By the end of the session, participants will: 1. Attempt to use PowerPoint basics including font size and style, use of the slide master, use of grammar and spelling check, personalized layout, graphics formatting, and other aspects. 2. Compare and contrast the key issues of copyright and patient privacy issues. 3. Discuss the basics of presentation and public speaking skills. Participants are invited to bring laptops and their own PowerPoint presentation that they wish to improve, enhance, revise or get started. All graduate and professional students and post-doctoral fellows are invited to attend the workshop on Saturday, January 23, 2010 from 9:30am-3:30pm at the Divinity School . This year’s GradSTEP theme, Whole Teachers, suggests a holistic approach to the art of teaching, emphasizing personal, community, and environmental sustainability as key components of professional development. Lighting of the Green Tuesday (Lipscomb)

Lipscomb University’s annual Lighting of the Green will feature the Lipscomb student choruses along with Amy Grant, Guy Penrod, Buddy Greene, the Annie Moses Band and other local musicians in a free outdoor concert at 5:30 p.m.
Additional festivities begin at 4:30 p.m., Tuesday (Dec. 1) with Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus posing for free photos; the Branches of Love Hall of Christmas Trees displaying about 40 custom-decorated Christmas trees; thousands of Christmas lights including a 35-foot-tall Christmas tree; and complimentary hot chocolate and cookies for all attendees. Bring a chair or blanket for the outdoor concert.

The Metro Parks Centennial Youth Ballet Mini-Nutcracker is at 7 p.m. on Dec. 4, at 2 and 7 p.m. on Dec. 5 and at 1 p.m. on Dec. 6 in the Davis Auditorium at the Harpeth Hall School.

Free Choral Christmas Concert

The Concert Chorale of Nashville is presenting a free Christmas concert with a selection of music from Handel’s Messiah at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in St. Henry’s Catholic Church on Highway 70 in Bellevue. Generous sponsors have pledged to give $15 for each person who attends to Room in the Inn. They will also take up a “love offering.”
