Dissertations & Theses
From GSCSurvivalGuide
While we'd love to be able to give advice here on how to write the world's best dissertation in 10 hours or less, the Wiki editors have not yet figured out this information for ourselves (hence still being graduate students). We can, however, provide information on the University requirements and resources for finishing your dissertation.

Submission Process
Don't forget that an Intent to Graduate form must be submitted early in the semester you intend to graduate - plan accordingly. There is a different deadline, later in the semester, for when the actual dissertation defense must take place by. Once you have successfully defended, the dissertation may be submitted to the Graduate School electronically or on paper [1].
Formatting
While each department has their own norms and standards for when and how dissertations are handled, a common format for dissertation presentation is required by the University. Current formatting guidelines are available from the Graduate School. Do not depend on your department for information on dissertation preparation. Also, do NOT copy the format from someone else’s dissertation; the guidelines may change yearly. For mathematical equations, graphs, figures, tables, and more unusual formats, check first with the Graduate School.
You are responsible for preparing your document according to the proper format guidelines established by the Graduate School. The Graduate School format editor is available to assist you with the format of your document. All documents are reviewed for compliance with official style. To allow enough time for inevitable format changes, any issues or concerns should be discussed with the Graduate School format editor well before any given semester’s document submission deadline.
Resources
- Dissertation Enhancement Grants
- Available to students who have successfully defended a dissertation proposal and are within 6 months of completion of their dissertation. The money can go to support equipment purchases, research participant incentive payments, or travel directly related to the dissertation. The grants are competitive [2].
