About Us
What
is Model United Nations?
Model United Nations is an
academic simulation of the United Nations
that aims to educate participants about civics, effective communication
and multilateral diplomacy. Participants take on roles as diplomats or
nations and participate in a simulated session of an international
organization meeting. Participants research their position, investigate
international issues, debate, deliberate, consult and develop solutions
to international issues.
In particular,
Vanderbilt MUN offers an
engaging atmosphere at over two dozen meetings throughout the year,
many simulations, philanthropic activities and an opportunity to travel
to various universities and compete on Vanderbilt’s team!
VUMUN
involves members in spirited discussions of geopolitical events,
focusing on the world issues that face the United Nations today. Skills
of debate, wit and confidence are sharpened to meet the challenges of
other members of Model UN in discussion. VUMUN affords these critical
skills to students of all years in undergraduate attendance. In
addition, the organization regularly invites experts in argumentation,
politics, or presentation skills in order to hone the abilities of the
members, not only for immediate use at inter-collegiate competitions
but also to provide training in essential life skills.
There are opportunities
to get involved
at all levels: attending meetings, representing Vanderbilt at
competitions with other colleges and universities, participating in
philanthropic efforts, attending MUN social functions and participating
in discussions with local experts and professors. No previous
experience is necessary and we welcome all areas of study and interest.
