Exhibition & Reception< - 6 PM, Sarratt Student Center Promenade Lecture – 7 PM, Sarratt Cinema
In turbulent times when intolerance and hostility continue unabated, stories of compassion are a crucial step toward mending the world. Numbers of stories exist of Albanian and Kosovar Muslims who risked their lives to save thousands of Jews, both natives of Albania and refugees fleeing Nazi-dominated Europe. Was it the ancient guest code of Besa or the teachings of the Koran that led them to consider the needs of strangers above the value of their own lives? The rescuers asked for nothing in return except to learn what became of their "guests" following the war. Not until the collapse of the secretive Communist Albanian regime did the story of the rescue become internationally known.
The life of fine-art photographer Norman Gershman was changed when he decided to seek out and honor in photographs the people who risked their lives during the Holocaust to save Jews. Photographer Stuart Huck joined Gershman in Albania to help create a significant portfolio of images depicting the rescuers. The Besa photographs have been exhibitied in the United Nations in New York and Yad Va'Shem in Israel.
Stuart Huck is a fine-art photographer trained in the tradition of Ansel Adams. Besa: Muslims Who Saved Jews in World War II was published in 2008. The stories in Besa will be the focus of a full-length documentary, God's House, by filmmaker Rachel Goslins.>
This program is part of Vanderbilt's Holocaust Lecture Series.

Salaam,
Alhamdulillah, with the effort of Brother Fares, our social chair, who reserved the sports club field this Friday, we are going to be able to play together this Friday there. We are going to be playing from 8pm to 9pm as reserved. However, the lights turn off at 10pm, so if nobody comes, we can just continue to play until 10pm.
Be healthy and I'll see you there, soon IA. Salaam |

Assalamualaikum,
The first annual 2009 Interfaith Council Soccer Tournament was held on Thursday, October 8 and was won by Team MESA, champions of the 2007 Multicultural Soccer tournament. The final match was between MESA and BYX which saw a dramatic last-minute goal by Aladine Elsamadicy (the only goal of the game).
The MSA team lost to BYX in the first round with a last minute goal while the MSAV were also defeated in the first round via a tense PK shootout, seeing two misses by MSAV players. However, Team MESA (originally slated to be disqualified due to a lack of players) was revived at the last minute and was comprised of players, coaches, and strategists from both teams (including co-captains from both teams).
Thus Team MESA ultimately consisted of a diverse array of players from various racial, ethnic, nationalistic, and religious backgrounds and truly embodied the all-inclusive spirit of the Interfaith Soccer Tournament.
