Cooking FAQ Guide

Thank you for agreeing to cook for Presbyterian Campus Ministry (PCM) at Vanderbilt University. We so appreciate your ministry to the students and hope that this guide will prove helpful as you prepare a PCM dinner. Please fill out this additional In-kind form so that we can have this for our records of giving. If you have any additional questions, please don’t hesitate to contact Linda Carter, (W) 322-7019 or linda.carter@vanderbilt.edu

Q.  Where are PCM dinners held?
A.  We now gather for worship in the Bishop Joseph Johnson Black Cultural Center (BJJBCC) , which is located on the Vanderbilt Campus. To get the BJJBBC from West End Avenue, take 24 th Ave. onto campus. From 24 th Avenue, turn LEFT at the first stop sign onto Vanderbilt Place. At the next stop sign (deadend), turn RIGHT (it will look as though you are headed into a truck loading area…keep going). Veer left up the hill and go to the stop sign. Turn RIGHT. The BJJBCC will be around the hill on your left just past Rand Hall and Sarratt Student Center. The parking is past the BJJBCC on the left. Enter the door closest to the parking spot. We will have a cart there to put your food on and roll it down the two halls to the kitchen. At the end of this sheet are pictures of the kitchen at the BJJBCC. For an online map that indicates where the BJJBCC is located on the Vanderbilt campus (keep double clicking on the image until you see the BJJBCC), see: http://www.vanderbilt.edu/map/map.cgi?mode=4&

Q.  Where should I park?
A.  There are a few parking spots next to the BJJBCC. If these spots are filled, we will find a place for your car(s)
after you unload. If you have a handicapped tag, you will more than likely have a guaranteed parking place. As of the beginning of the fall semester, the parking spaces are not yet labeled, so anyone can park there. That will change. Therefore, if you can, please try to carpool.

Q. What time are PCM dinners scheduled?
A. We gather for worship on Thursdays at 6:00 pm and dinner is served immediately after worship (typically 7:00 pm) - except for Oct. 13 th when we will eat at 6:00 (see schedule below). Jennifer Fouse, the Vanderbilt Campus Minister, or a student is typically on-site by 4:30 pm. If your schedule permits, we welcome you to worship with us and hope that you will be able to stay through dinner so the students can meet and thank you for your kindness.

Q. Does BJJBCC Chapel have a kitchen?
A. YES, actually two! However, only one has a stove/oven. The other one has a refrigerator and a microwave, in case you need overflow. Because the BJJBCC has a limited kitchen with only a regular sized stove/oven, refrigerator, dishwasher and microwave, it would be best to come with a cooked meal that only needs to be warmed. You should also plan to bring any needed cooking utensils (including pot holders) as we cannot promise what will be in the kitchen from week to week. However, we will have dish soap and paper towels.

Q. How many students attend PCM dinners?
A. The number of students attending seems to fluctuate due to the fact that these are college students (depending on meetings, tests, etc.). However, we usually have between 30-40 students (sometimes less and sometimes more). We apologize for not being able to give you an exact number.

Q. What meals / courses should be provided?
A. If possible, please provide a main dish, a vegetable or salad, bread, and dessert. PCM provides the drinks and paper products. However, if you plan on serving soup or something that requires bowls, please let Jennifer know so that she can have them available. Thanks. J

Q. Are there any dietary restrictions?
A. We have a few vegetarians but they usually eat the salad, bread, and dessert.

Q. Who is responsible for clean-up?
A. We are sitting on the floor in a lounge this year with trays, so there are no chairs or tables. If you could be responsible for cleaning up what you bring, it would be greatly appreciated. We use paper products so that there is a relatively easy clean up. There are usually some students who stay behind and are willing to help as well.

Q. What do we do about leftovers?
A. Unfortunately because we do not have a permanent building and no fridge or freezer space, we cannot keep leftovers. However, sometimes students will take some food home. We are sorry if this causes any

inconvenience but for right now, there is no storage.

Q. What does the kitchen look like?
A. It looks like an apartment kitchen (actually a little bigger). See pictures at the top of this page.

It is long and narrow- not much room for more than two or three folks.
