NOAA Ernest F. Hollings Undergraduate Scholarship Program

This National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) scholarship program provides successful undergraduate applicants with awards that include academic assistance (up to a maximum of US$8,000 per year) for full-time study during the 9-month academic year; a 10-week, full-time internship position (US$650/week) during the summer at a NOAA facility; and, if reappointed, academic assistance (up to a maximum of US$8,000) for full-time study during a second 9-month academic year. The internship provides students with hands-on educational training experience in NOAA-related science, research, technology, policy, management, and education activities. Awards also include travel funds to attend a mandatory Hollings Scholarship Program orientation, conferences where students present a paper or poster, and a housing subsidy for scholars who do not reside at home during the summer internship.

EPA Research Fellowships for Undergrad Environmental Study

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, as part of its Greater Research Opportunities (GRO) program, is offering GRO undergraduate fellowships for bachelor level students in environmental fields of study. Subject to availability of funding, the Agency plans to award approximately 20 new fellowships by July 31, 2009. Eligible students will receive support for their junior and senior years of undergraduate study and for an internship at an EPA facility during the summer between their junior and senior years. The fellowship provides up to $19,250 per year of academic support and up to $8,000 of internship support for a three-month summer period. Applicants attending fully accredited four year U.S. institutions of higher education are eligible to apply. The deadline for receipt of pre-applications is December 11, 2008.

Brower Youth Awards

The Brower Youth Awards honors six young people from North America, ages 13-22, annually for their outstanding work for the planet. Each winner is awarded $3000 and brought to the San Francisco Bay Area for a week of media and public outreach, leadership support, bonding with the other award recipients, and a scenic camping trip. And to culminate the week's activities, the six individuals will receive their awards at a 900-person awards ceremony, followed by a public reception. Past winners have protected Native sacred sites from development, restored wetlands in their communities, spread awareness about threatened sea turtles, coordinated student networks pushing for a clean energy future, and more.

National Wildlife Federation Campus Ecology Grants

National Wildlife Federation's Campus Ecology program awards fellowship grants to undergraduate and graduate students who are committed to reduce their campus carbon footprint; projects including: greenhouse gas inventories, climate action plans, energy conservation and efficiency, habitat restoration, convening climate action gatherings and more will be considered. Grant awards: Up to $2000 for Undergraduate Students and up to $5000 for Graduate Students. Fall deadline: October 1, 2009. Additional submission deadlines throughout the year.

Morris K. Udall Scholarship

The Udall Foundation seeks future leaders across a wide spectrum of environmental fields, including policy, engineering, science, education, urban planning and renewal, business, health, justice, and economics. The Foundation also seeks future Native American and Alaska Native leaders in public and community health care, tribal government, and public policy affecting Native American communities, including land and resource management, economic development, and education.

Walmart Better Living Business Plan Challenge 2009

Walmart is committed to fostering innovation at all levels - in our stores and supply chain, in communities, and throughout the retail industry. In this spirit, the Walmart Better Living Business Plan Challenge provides a forum for students to showcase their best ideas and to help Walmart learn from some of the brightest minds in the world. The competition challenges students to invent sustainable products or develop sustainable business solutions and present them to a panel of Walmart executives, suppliers, and environmental organizations. In addition to gaining an audience with some of the top business and sustainability leaders in the United States, the winning school will receive $20,000 to invest in their business or product.

6th Annual P3 Awards: A National Student Design Competition for Sustainability - Focusing on People, Prosperity and the Planet

Summary: The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), as part of the P3 Award Program, is seeking applications proposing to research, develop, and design solutions to real world challenges involving sustainability. The P3 competition highlights people, prosperity, and the planet - the three pillars of sustainability. The P3 Awards program is a partnership between the public and private sectors to foster progress toward sustainability by achieving the mutual goals of economic prosperity, protection of the planet, and improved quality of life for its people. The EPA offers the P3 competition in order to respond to the technical needs of the developed and developing world while moving towards the goal of sustainability.
