NASHVILLE, TN: Vanderbilt University’s Homecoming festivities are sure to set tongues wagging this year. The 7th annual Commodore Quake continues the tradition of showcasing music’s most popular acts by presenting New Orleans-based rapper Lil’ Wayne along with Chicago hip-hop phenom Lupe Fiasco and Memphis’ Free Sol on Thursday, October 23rd. With this line-up at Memorial Gymnasium on the Vanderbilt campus the night is sure to be nothing short of extraordinary. Vanderbilt prides itself on featuring some of the most prominent artists for their annual Commodore Quake.

"We strive to bring the best and brightest stars in the music industry to Vanderbilt and we accomplished this again with booking Lil' Wayne,” says Dwayne Elliott, Director of Student Campus Events at Vanderbilt University. “Lil' Wayne is one of the biggest stars in the rap game right now and we are very excited about bringing him to our campus this year."

Known as “the best rapper of his generation”, New Orleans native Lil’ Wayne continues to dominate the rap world with his infectious beats and hard-hitting lyrics. With record sales exceeding six million units during his short 13-year career span, he continues to prove his immense talent and popularity. Lil’ Wayne first gained mainstream notoriety after being featured on Fat Joe’s single, “Make It Rain.” In the past two years, he has recorded over 1,000 songs and freestyles including the hit singles, “Lollipop”, “A Milli” and “Got Money”.  Lil’ Wayne’s summer 2008 release, Tha Carter III, has gone double-platinum.

Rather than conform to music industry standards, Lupe Fiasco has trail-blazed his own path to critical acclaim. Possessing head-spinning wordplay and a topical range more akin to the underground than the mainstream, the 25-year-old lyricist has proven that talent can still make waves in the rap game. Setting the stage for a career that promised longevity, his first album Food & Liquor landed a remarkable three Grammy nominations. His critically-acclaimed second album, The Cool, was released in December 2007 debuting at #15 on the Billboard 200 chart and has been certified Gold by RIAA.

Influenced by a variety of sounds from blues to rock to hip-hop, Free Sol has created a unique eclectic sound, blending elements of hip-hop, rock, funk, jazz, and soul. His range in talents was quickly recognized, and he soon found himself sharing the stage with the likes of Justin Timberlake, Isaac Hayes, T.I., Talib Kweli, Marc Broussard, Erykah Badu, and the Foo Fighters, to name a few. Recently, Timberlake recognized his progressive and unique star qualities and signed Free Sol to his upstart label, Tennman Records.

Ticket sales are scheduled to begin at 10:00 AM CST on Friday, September 12th and are available at all Ticketmaster locations, online at www.ticketmaster.com <http://www.ticketmaster.com/> or by calling (615) 343-3361.
