Presentation of Resolutions, Speaker Hooks
-
- Resolution 11-12-15: Accountability and Transparency Omnibus
- Technical Questions
- Would we release the budget before it is approved then approve then re-send it?
- Clarifying how budget is posted
- Proposed budget would be released to student media and to VSG so that it can be reviewed before passing
- Standardizing in terms of statutes
- How would you define student media?
- Hustler, any other published sources
- Are we required to send it to all media?
- Can be requested and then sent, so yes, but up to the president
- Zye, what is your opinion?
- Not allowed to voice opinion on this to this particular body
- Do minutes of committees need to be posted?
- In statutes, does not specify that General Secretary must post minutes, only says keeping accurate minutes
- Are you somehow worried about corruption or notes being tallied correctly?
- Already required to release vote counts
- Not required to publicize voting records of Senate members voting on resolutions
- Students should have access to voting records
- Clarification of statutes—not necessarily to prevent corruption
- Would we release the budget before it is approved then approve then re-send it?
- Debate
- 24 hours is not very reasonable—should be 48-72
- Valid concern, but not asking too much, it does not take long
- 24 hours before budget would be Tuesday night then voted on Wednesday—students might believe that it is final budget if it is published before vote
- Not for the goal of publishing, but to ensure that students can ask questions about the budget before the final budget is voted on
- What happens if it’s not published in 24 hours?
- That would be someone not performing their duty
- Won’t be removed for that, but that is part of the responsibility of the position
- Not necessarily a huge violation—treated as any other breach in statutes
- Good resolution, will help keep VSG accountable, good job
- 24 hours is not very reasonable—should be 48-72
- Resolution passes Senate

- Resolution 11-12-15: Accountability and Transparency Omnibus
