The Green Bird

By Carlo Gozzi

October 28, 29 at 8:00 pm

October 30 at 2:00 pm

November 3, 4, 5, 10, 11, 12 at 8:00 pm

An evil queen, a dim king, an avaricious princess and a mysterious green bird are some of the characters that inhabit the world of Carlo Gozzi’s quirky theatrical fantasy. First performed in 18th century Venice, The Green Bird is often revived, charming contemporary audiences with its playful take on familiar fairy tale forms and wowing them with its sheer theatrical inventiveness.

The Children's Hour

By Lillian Hellman

February 17, 18, 22, 23, 24 at 8:00 pm

February 19 at 2:00 pm

Long before Arthur Miller’s The Crucible, Lillian Hellman shocked audiences with her indictment of a society which blindly swallows unsubstantiated lies and accusations. Hellman’s world of 1934, although tame by contemporary standards, still resonates today, especially when compared to our mania for finger-pointing and name-calling. Hellman skillfully charts the decimation that occurs when a spoiled child accuses her teachers of “forbidden” acts.

By William Shakespeare

February 25 at 2:00 pm

February 25 at 8:00 pm

We invite you to attend a special production by the world-class players of Actors From the London Stage. Two performances mark the culmination of this troupe's weeklong residency with the students of the Department of Theatre, made possible by the generous endowment of Delbert Mann's Fred Coe Artist in Residence fund.

The Liar

By David Ives

April 6, 7, 12, 13, 14 at 8:00 pm

April 8 at 2:00 pm

Fresh from a successful world premiere at the Shakespeare Theatre in Washington, D.C., David Ives’ vivacious adaptation of Corneille’s 17th comedy delights with linguistic wit and slapstick style. When the new man-about-town is a compulsive liar and his honest sidekick cannot tell a lie, mayhem and misunderstanding ensue in affairs of the heart. Recently Ives won a 2010 MacArthur Award for this rollicking farce.
